Unless you’re a climber or a follower of the expedition climbing scene, you’ve probably never heard of Cho Oyu. It’s the sixth highest mountain in the Himalaya , and that means it’s the sixth highest in the world. It is situated on the border between China and Nepal.
For those of you who don’t follow this stuff: China took over Tibet about 50 years ago, and the spiritual leader of the country, the Dalai Lama, fled to India. Since then Tibetans wanting to make a pilgrimage to see the Dalai Lama have had to hoof it over the border avoiding the usual Himalayan pitfalls as well as armed Chinese border guards.
Earlier this month a group of men, women and children were interdicted by the Chinese border guards who opened fire on them, killing at least three individuals. The incident was filmed by Romanian Pro TV cameraman Sergiu Matei.
I realize — in the course of current events — this doesn’t even qualify as a blip, but take a look at the video and keep it in mind.
Go HERE to see a short video on the killings.
