Not wanting to make light of Senator Johnson's (D-SD) medical problems (he suffered some sort of aneurysm during an interview on Wednesday and is in CCU as I write this),but Nancy Pelosi really must be the devil, 'cause it seems as if even God doesn't want the Dems to have control of the Senate. If Johnson is unable to fulfill his term, the governor of South Dakota, who happens to be a Republican, gets to pick his replacement. A new election wouldn't occur until 2008.
That would make the Senate a 50-50 split with the tiebreaker going to ... ta-dah ... Dick Cheney as speaker.
I'm waiting for the Pelosi/Kennedy/Kerry/et al, camp and the media to blame this on President Bush ... I expect that to occur as soon as Johnson's prognosis (which certainly doesn't sound good, despite all the Bphony semantic glad handing and well wishing) becomes more definitive.
I can't enjoy someone else's misfortune, regardless of who or what they are, so my prayers for him and to his family. Christmas is a shitty time for that kind of stuff to happen.
But, you gotta' wonder!!
