THE FATE OF OLD WARRIORS

No, this has nothing to do with Walter Reed — were any of us surprised by this latest debacle? Military philosophy always seems to be “there’s nothing so useless as a soldier who can’t fight and won’t die.” Ah well …).

Anyway … this is about the venerable F-4 Phantom. I’ve fired — well, we found, the FAC fired — these puppies on several occasions and once in a very hairy one, and speedy or not, they sure saved the day.

So — speaking of old soldiers — HERE’S what happened to the old “Double Ugly” (as some called it, “Rhino” as others. I seem to recall referring to them as “Boomers” and, of course, the generic “Tac Air”).

From a Defense Industry Daily report.
