Both specifically in lieu of the below article on sonar and whales, and the comment thereon ...
Gore-ience:
Unsubstantiated science that, when written, becomes fact. Needs no real empirical evidence, just repetition; the more of the latter the truer.
When there are facts substantiating that sound hurts whales - I've dived with them and they're beautiful critters - then I'll consider stopping testing needed sonar.
Gore-istory:
See Gore-ience. Undisciplined reading of available information, then propagandizing it by repetition of incorrect facts disguised as truths; the more of the latter the better.
Subs don't fight subs, and subs haven't fought in naval battles since the Falkland War. Subs do gather intel, do land troops, do fire missiles and do follow things like the Chinese boomers that make our attack subs look like bathtub toys in size if not sophistication. Take a look at what China considers a peaceful navy, and tell me you don't want something that is a deterrent simply due to the fact it can destroy the world -- even if it has two billion Chinese in it.
