Nashville Records announced last week that the DoD has requested them to provide original songs for the christening and commencement of the USS New York. The ship will be added to the Naval fleet and was constructed with 24 tons of melted steel from the World Trade Centers.
The christening, although not yet announced, is anticipated to take place on or around September 11 in New Orleans, with a commencement scheduled for New York.
Beginning next week the company is interviewing artist managers and artists for this and other upcoming projects. In June the company will be recording the title song, “The U.S.S. New York,” written by writers of Nashville Records.
The ramblings, meanderings and personal opinions about war, politics, adventure and anything else that strikes my fancy.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT: JIMMY CAH-TUH
I have never been nor ever will be a fan of Jimmy Carter, but you can’t make this shit up, even if you try. The former President and erstwhile do-gooder bashed a sitting president on the Today Show a week or so back, and, naturally, apologized like every good Democrat does when he speaks his mind, when taken to task about it.
But nonetheless …
During his four-year reign of error, Carter did nothing to intervene when the Sandinistas introduced a Communist regime in Nicaragua. He wore sweaters and talked about “malaise” on television while Islamic fundamentalists overthrew an allied government in Iran. He allowed 52 Americans to languish in captivity there for 444 days. He finished off his term with interest rates at 21 percent, inflation at 13 percent, and an approval rating at 21 percent—the lowest in the history of modern polling.

WHY THE DEMS HAVEN'T INVOKED HIS NAME LATELY
The pet poster boy for the oh-mi-god-there’s-a-war-on-stop-it-Pelosi-Reid cabal, John Murtha (ex-Marine and all around harrumphing curmudgeon of a Pennsylvania Democrat), hasn’t been seen in print or opinion lately – an oddity considering the Dems had to fold their stop-the-war platform.
Why, you might ask?
Because it turns out ol’ Murtha’s really is a bit of a whack job, as per the following from my pals at US Patriot. (Please at least read the last line of this “I-swear-it’s-not-a-joke.”)
“Meanwhile, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) filed a resolution this week for the House to reprimand Demo loudmouth John Murtha (D-PA) for threatening to kill any earmarks Rogers introduced in any defense-appropriations bill. Murtha’s threat came after Rogers unsuccessfully tried to remove an earmark that Murtha added to the Intelligence Authorization Act of 2008 (H.R. 2082) to authorize $23 million for the National Drug Intelligence Center based in Murtha’s district. Rogers acted in line with President Bush’s desire to close the office, which has been given poor reviews by several federal review boards.
“Murtha told Rogers after the vote, “I hope you don’t have any earmarks in the defense appropriations bill because they are gone, and you will not get any earmarks now and forever.” This tirade, complete with finger-pointing, came on the heels of a similar threat Murtha made to Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS), after Tiahrt voted to close a program in Murtha’s district. Murtha’s next project is to pass the 2008 intelligence bill—complete with a mandate that the intelligence community report on global warming."

DEFINITIONS
Both specifically in lieu of the below article on sonar and whales, and the comment thereon ...
Gore-ience:
Unsubstantiated science that, when written, becomes fact. Needs no real empirical evidence, just repetition; the more of the latter the truer.
When there are facts substantiating that sound hurts whales - I've dived with them and they're beautiful critters - then I'll consider stopping testing needed sonar.
Gore-istory:
See Gore-ience. Undisciplined reading of available information, then propagandizing it by repetition of incorrect facts disguised as truths; the more of the latter the better.
Subs don't fight subs, and subs haven't fought in naval battles since the Falkland War. Subs do gather intel, do land troops, do fire missiles and do follow things like the Chinese boomers that make our attack subs look like bathtub toys in size if not sophistication. Take a look at what China considers a peaceful navy, and tell me you don't want something that is a deterrent simply due to the fact it can destroy the world -- even if it has two billion Chinese in it.

MORE IDIOTS TO DEAL WITH
Thye Navy does more to protect the sea in a day than these monied, neer do wells do in a year. Their name reeks of arrogance, social snobbery and elitism.
But they DO have to justify all the money they collect. (And remember: we're paying for this frivolous suit.)
Navy Disappointed With Lawsuit Against Anti-Submarine Warfare Training
From Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet Public Affairs
PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- The Navy is disappointed with EarthJustice’s decision to pursue litigation against critical training activities in Hawaiian waters, the deputy commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet said.
“These fleet training activities are essential to the Navy’s ability to ensure our nation’s armed forces are fully combat ready and adequately trained according to established, time-tested standards,” said Rear Adm. John M. Bird.
The suit, filed May 16 by EarthJustice on behalf of five non-government organizations, asks the court to prohibit naval sonar exercises near Hawaii, saying that sonar can have a negative impact on marine mammals.
But such exercises have already taken place in Hawaiian waters with no problems.
“Since January the Navy has conducted two undersea warfare exercises, incorporating mid-frequency active sonar, with no issues,” said Capt. Scott Gureck, Pacific Fleet public affairs officer. “We take steps to identify and avoid marine mammals during training, and we are complying with all laws that protect marine mammals throughout the Hawaiian Islands—the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act.”
As part of the process of protecting marine mammals that inhabit Hawaii’s waters, the Navy coordinated closely with the National Marine Fisheries Service to identify the mitigation measures in place during these exercises, Gureck noted.
The Navy complies with all applicable statutes, regulations and executive orders and strives to protect the environment, prevent pollution and protect natural, historic and cultural resources. Navy policy requires that major fleet exercises be reviewed for environmental compliance and for potential effect on marine mammals and other marine life.
The Navy has developed and implemented procedures based on the best available science throughout the fleet that are designed to help individual ship commanders maintain readiness and protect the environment during routine training and exercises by identifying and employing appropriate protective measures for sensitive marine resources. These measures provide environmental situational awareness as well as specific operating procedures based on place, date and type of training event.
“As a Navy, we live on and in the sea,” Bird said. “We take our responsibility for protecting the oceans and marine life very seriously and have committed resources and a significant amount of effort to that end. We are also committed to provide safe, realistic, and meaningful training.”

SCUMBAG OF THE WESTERN WORLD
Michael Moore, he of the slovely appearance and the slovenly research and fact checking, premiered his latest film, the aptly biograpghically named Sicko, at Cannes to the raves of the French press. Then again, the French love Jerry Lewis as a comedic genius, Anna Nicole Smith as ....well, I'm not sure, and l'enfant asshole Michael Moore.
Ah those funny French. Never met an enemy they didn't surrender to ... and blame it on les Americains.

SUPER INTENSE
Want to get an idea of what it feels like to be shot at by SAM missiles?
Here’re some cockpit recordings of four F-16s in that situation during the first Gulf War. Supposedly all four pilots lived, but two were shot down in this action and became POWs.
"Intense" mildly describes THIS video clip.

IT'S OKAY, HE'S ONLY A REPUBLICAN
Rather than call that racially pandering obscenity known as Al Sharpton a bigot and demand he be fired from -- hmmm. What does Al Sharpton do? -- for his comments about the religion of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney (he's a Mormon), the media has chosen instead to call for the ouster from earth of Opie and Anthony for having Homeless Charlie on the air this week. Apparently Charlie wants to have sex with Condoleeza Rice, Queen Elizabeth and Laura Bush (quite eclectic taste in women, eh?).
What the hell, Romney's a Republican and a Mormon. You can call him anything you want. With no repercussions.
Where's Don Imus when we need him?

WHO'LL BE RESPONSIBLE?
Okay .... I was wrong. I've always been sort of wishy-washy when it comes to immigration reform. Yeah, I've been against illegal immigration, but it hasn't been forefront in my mind, what with things called "wars" going on, media malfeasance, polimilitarism (or lack thereof), etc.
But everyone has a limit.
Aside from these Islamic nut cases practicing war at the paintball games and others of their ilk, there is a coalition (of the usual scumbags) trying to bring down American society under the guise of protection of constitutional rights. I'm speaking of the ACLU and related assholes.
Read Front Page Magazine.Com for a look at what got me going this morning.

BEST WAR CORRESPONDENT OF THIS WAR
Hands down it’s Michael Yon. Michael who?
Mike has been with the troops longer than some of the troops have been in the military. You may have heard about him, but chances are you haven’t because he doesn’t pontificate, editorialize or lie. He also writes with enough technical detail to keep we warheads happy, yet with enough clarity for civilians to easily understand what's going on. As a writer, I can attest to how difficult that can be.
It's also occurred to me I haven't given Michael his props for this coverage, so I'm correcting that now.
HERE’S a taste.
As for me … Computer problems and I’ve been on the road. I’m back.
