Okay, from the headlines and whatnot after the president's Tuesday night speech, here's the way it looks like the MSM is planning to get him re-elected.

First off the Romney-Gingrich GOP nominee line: You'll probably hear and/or read nothing but how the two are polling equal. When something else will be reported it will only have to do with Romney — the left and the Dems are afraid of him because they apparently realize he can beat their boy. There will be NO mention of Mitt without the inclusion of the keywords "Mormon," "income tax," or "tithing," and will always make reference to his "corporate raiding," the latter, an arrogant assumption and a blatant lie, the three former ones irrelevant.

Secondly. There will only be reference to Gingrich in the context of Romney, but there will be a downplaying of any of Gingrich's faults, gaffes, etc. Slowly, the words "divorce," "Fannie Mae," "Freddie Mac," "DC insider," etc. will disappear from Newt stories. If there was a chance Newt could pull Indies, I'd probably vote for him, but there isn't, so Mitt's My Man.

A — he was 85 and had cancer, so we're not looking at a big surprise there.

Monday marked the 18th anniversary of the raid — Operation Gothic Serpent — in Mogadishu, Somalia in which 19 American soldiers were killed in the contacts immortalized in the Mark Bowden’s book and the Ridley Scott movie made from it, Black Hawk Down.

Although often thought of as a 75th Ranger ops, Special Forces, Navy SEALs, Air Force Pararescuemen and 160th Special Operations Regiment pilots were also involved in the battle, and the rescue element that extricated the Rangers, et al., was composed of US 10th Mountain Division troopers, as well as armor elements of Pakistani and Malaysian military.

Lost in the memory of the day was the fact that the object of the raid — capturing some criminals — was successful and that somewhere between 700 and 1500 Somalia street fighters were killed during the attack. Seventy-three Amercians were wounded in the attack and rescue/wrap up.

The two Blackhawk helicopters taken down were hit by RPGs fired by al Qaeda fighters.

LLONDON (AFP) – A Nepalese soldier in the British army has been given a top bravery award by Queen Elizabeth II for his heroics in Afghanistan, where he single-handedly saw off more than 30 Taliban fighters.
Corporal Dipprasad Pun, 31, said he thought he was going to die and so had nothing to lose in taking on the attackers who overran his checkpoint.
He was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross (CGC), which is given in recognition of acts of conspicuous gallantry during active operations against the enemy.
Pun fired more than 400 rounds, launched 17 grenades and detonated a mine to repel the Taliban assault on his checkpoint near Babaji in Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan, last September.
Surrounded, the enemy opened fired from all sides and for 15 minutes Pun remained under continuous attack, including from rocket-propelled grenades and AK47 guns.
At one point, unable to shoot, he used his machine gun tripod to knock down a militant who was climbing the walls of the compound.
Two insurgents were still attacking by the time he ran out of ammunition, but he set off a Claymore mine to repel them.
Pun was given his medal in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in London on Wednesday.
The CGC is second only to the Victoria Cross -- the highest honour for bravery in the face of the enemy.
"There wasn't any choice but to fight. The Taliban were all around the checkpoint. I was alone," he said.
"I had so many of them around me that I thought I was definitely going to die so I thought I'd kill as many of them as I could before they killed me.
"After that I thought nobody can kill us now -- when we met the enemy I wasn't scared."
Britain's Major General Nicholas Carter, who was commander of allied forces in southern Afghanistan during Pun's deployment, praised his efforts.
"The CGC does not get handed out lightly. It was a most remarkable achievement," he said.

Monthly data on the origins of crude oil imports in December 2010 has been released and it shows that four countries exported more than 1,000 thousand barrels per day to the United States (see table below). The top five exporting countries accounted for 72 percent of United States crude oil imports in December while the top ten sources accounted for approximately 88 percent of all U.S. crude oil imports. The top five sources of US crude oil imports for December were Canada (2,064 thousand barrels per day), Mexico (1,223 thousand barrels per day), Saudi Arabia (1,076 thousand barrels per day), Nigeria (1,024 thousand barrels per day), and Venezuela (825 thousand barrels per day). The rest of the top ten sources, in order, were Iraq (336 thousand barrels per day), Angola (307 thousand barrels per day), Brazil (271 thousand barrels per day), Algeria (262 thousand barrels per day), and Colombia (220 thousand barrels per day). Total crude oil imports averaged 8,631 thousand barrels per day in December, which is an increase of 23 thousand barrels per day from November 2010.

41st ANNIVERSARY of the 75th RANGERS

There we were plugging along doing our best to make life miserable for the North Vietnamese and VC, when ol' Westy decides all the LRPs and LRRPs are doing such a great job that we should be called Rangers and reactivates the 75th Rangers, tracing our heritage from WW II's Merrill's Marauder. And the 75th Rangers were reborn on February 1, 1969.

And, yes, I was part of that. My company, which was part of the Fourth Infantry Division — formerly E Co. 58th Inf. LRP/LRRP (part of the 1st Squadron 10th Cavalry) — became Co K, 75th Rangers (Abn).

And that, as they say, is how it happened.

Happy 41th to all the LRPs, LRRPs and Rangers out there.

THE HUEY RETIRES

More than 50 years after the first models lifted off, the Army is retiring the few single-bladed UH-1 variants still sitting on the flightline.

Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Long, part of the Training Center's Air Ambulance Detachment, is probably one of the last Vietnam-era Huey pilots serving today. He was recalled to active duty in 2002 because the Army didn't have enough Huey-trained pilots.

Long had the honor of piloting the last formal Huey mission at the training center as part of the flyaway retirement ceremony on the parade ground. Sitting on his left was retired Lt. Col. Bruce Crandall, who received the Medal of Honor for flying 70 wounded troops out of Vietnam's Ia Drang Valley in 1965.

FARGO, N.D. -- A Vietnam War pilot who has been missing in action for more than four decades will be coming home to Fargo this week. The remains of U.S. Air Force Maj. Thomas Beyer will arrive Wednesday evening, and his funeral will take place Saturday afternoon.

Beyer served with the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron at Chu Lai Air Base in South Vietnam. From there, he flew the O-2A Skymaster, a military version of the Cessna 337, as a spotter plane. He went missing while on mission #5096, a visual reconnaissance and forward air control assignment, the afternoon of July 30, 1968. He was later declared dead on May 2, 1978, and his remains were identified Nov. 19 of this year.

Beyer's remains are scheduled to return on Delta Flight 2185 into Hector International Airport at 8:29 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15. The Air Force will provide a military funeral honors detail, including an 18-member color guard, bugler and firing squad. Vietnam Veterans of America will lead color guards from veterans' service organizations as well as the North Dakota Patriot Guard, which will form a flag line.

These guys were incredibly ballsy and pulled my (and my team's) chestnuts out of the open fire many a time.

Seems the Castro folks didn't want the people of Cuba to be reminded that the healthcare facility pictured in fatso's film exists since they can't avail themselves of it — unless they know someone to bribe.

Also according to the leaked document, some Cuban doctors walked out of a screening of the flic (as in movie, not French cop) in protest.

This begs a couple of questions. If the left says this is untrue, then what does that mean for the rest of the Wikileaks releases? If they say it's true, then what does this mean for their raves about Moore's "documentary?" Can't have it both ways, like Libs and Lefties always want.

A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order Monday to block a new amendment to the Oklahoma Constitution that would prohibit state courts from considering international or Islamic law when deciding cases.
