Yup, June 14 is Flag Day, so if you’re not a regular flag waver, today’s the day to be one.
On a less upbeat note, today was also the day in 1985 that Navy Steelworker 2nd Class Robert D. Stethem of Underwater Construction Team 1 was killed.
By who, what, where? Well, it’s that darn old war on terror that doesn’t exist. It’s the same war that, had we killed a lot of these thugs way back when, we wouldn’t be fighting today.
Stethem was the Navy man killed by Shi’ite Islamic terrorists who’d hijacked TWA Flight 847. After beating him nearly to death, they shot him and threw his body out of the plane onto the tarmac.
So what did we do? Well, unlike the Israelis who hunted down and mad-dog killed every terrorist involved in the Munich Olympic massacre, Imad Mugniyah, Ali Atwa, and Hassan Izz-Al-Din, Mohammed Ali Hammadi (this is the mutt indicted for Stethem’s murder), who had all been in custody at one time or another, are all still happy as a Shi’ite on a sheep farm, at large and on the FBI’s most wanted terrorist list. There is still a $5 million reward on these dogs. Anybody got time to make a few bucks?
The ramblings, meanderings and personal opinions about war, politics, adventure and anything else that strikes my fancy.
