Eleven of the 12 miners trapped in a mine explosion in West Virginia were found dead this morning of carbon monoxide poisoning. The 12th was in critical condition in an area hospital. The explosion at the Sago coalmine, located 140 miles south of Pittsburgh, occurred at 6:30 a.m. on January 2. One theory for the explosion is that it was triggered by a lightning strike.
