RACIST U.S. MILITARY?

Okay, here’s one you’re going to hear mis-reported in the days to come: the report — a relatively strong rebuke — of the institutional ethic of the US military. It was written by British general Brigadier Nigel Aylwin-Foster, and the full report was written up in the US Army magazine Military Review.

Headlines are going to claim a bunch of shit, all of which will be taken out of the context in which the brigadier said it — a favorite tactic of lazy and slanted media. What he said is probably valid or the Military Review wouldn’t have run it, and I don’t doubt it’s opinionated and insightful, but - and the brigadier takes issue with U.S. military/American culture - it is also arrived at by someone from a different culture speaking about a second culture’s reaction to a third culture (i.e., British, American, Iraqi).

But I GUARANTEE one thing: the media will turn the brigadiers comments into things he never said.
