In one of my other guises I write a lot about boats, boating and things marine. One of my pet peeves in the marine industry (and one that crosses over to the land-based side of things) is our governments insistence on (thanks largely to some reallllly bad science perpetrated by agenda-driven folks who want to pass a law about everything you do) furthering the ethanol agenda.
(I won't get into the low sulphur diesel/biodiesel debate, mainly because there is some merit to the stuff, although not the way/timing/marekting in which it was foisted on us.)
I could go on for ever about why the ethanol/gasoline thing is a scam involving more wasted energy and more pollution to produce than it saves in greenhouse gas emissions (actually I have in other printed forms), but you'd probably consider it some sort of genocidal rant that I dare point anything scientifically provable out. So ... here's what Rich Lowry, editor of the National Review had to say - very succinctly - about the topic.
“Ethanol is to Iowans what marijuana is to Rastafarians: a substance that is considered quasi-holy, but only because it delivers really good times.”
Ah well ... I thought it was hysterical. It wins Best Line of the Week.
