Chasing the 50 mph barrier in sailboats is like chasing the land sound barrier at Bonneville Salt Flats (that was accomplished by Andy Green in the ThrustSSC back in October ‘97).
The sailors, in a variety of craft, some recognizable as watercraft and some really wild looking, are presently at 48.70 mph (Finian Maynard on a sailboard in April ‘05).
So here’s the next one to give it a try — the WotRocket .
