This was an Op-Ed I wrote for the Times-Review, a local (North Fork) paper on October 23. It ran in the Suffolk Times, Shelter Island News and North Shore Sun as well.
Needless to say, every feather-brained, screaming liberal in the area wrote to the paper the following week, calling me a McCarthy-ite, a racist, anti-Muslin (well, they might have something there. Until some one in that religion excommunicates the terrorists, supporters of that religion suck), and some other choice little names. You know, the usual bluster that comes out of their mouths when someone doesn't agree with them. Short on substances, but long on name calling, that's the Left.
Anyway ... here's the Op Ed. You'll have to find a copy of the October 30 edition of any of the papers to read the letters, but it won't be worth the effort.
The indignancy the Left exhibits at the mere suggestion that there is anything amiss with their latest offering as deity — i.e., Barack Hussein Obama — would be laughable were the consequences of following their proffered Messiah not so potentially disastrous. So, rather than rely on the electronic version of the Telephone Game for news, let’s talk three real facts.
Fact: If you had a Rolodex containing the Rogue’s Gallery pack of Barack Hussein Obama’s supporters, mentors, confidantes and acquaintances, you might be able to get a job as a Somali pirate, but not one as the head of the US Armed Forces, CIA, Secret Service, etc., et al.
At worst Obama is a liar when it comes to his knowledge or lack thereof of his “friends.” At best he has a severe character disorder in which he cannot discern right from wrong in people. He lists felons, racists, terrorists, persons-of-interest in the murders of police officers, a man who vowed — and tried — to kill American servicemen, and more. But somehow, this is all explained by, “But I was only 10 years old at the time.”
Yes, Mr. Obama, has the character judgment of a 10-year-old, and with “friends” like Auchi, Ayers, Dohrn, Khalidi, Howard, Pfleger, Raines, Rezko, Wright, etc., et al …well… as Euripides noted, “Every man is like the company he is wont to keep.”
Fact: Obama’s tax plan is going to make you wish you didn’t work. And according to him you shouldn’t really have to because America “owes” you.
According to the non-partisan Tax Foundation, last year, “the top 1% of tax returns paid about the same amount of federal individual income taxes as the bottom 95% of tax returns.”
No matter what Obama says about changing the tax rates and making it fair, you’d better hope it doesn’t happen — especially since he has a trillion dollars in goodies lined up to add to the current mess. What Barack Hussein Obama wants to do is classic Marxist redistribution of wealth and is one of the reasons why countries go to war. His plan points in one direction only: a welfare state. If you think otherwise you’re a fool.
Oh … and as for taxing the oil companies more … they already pay $4,000 a second in taxes! As for windfall profit taxes: that’s why we’re importing 70% of our oil. Wake up and stop believing this socialist BS. Socialism/Marxism/Communism are failed economic systems.
Fact: Nobody gets to know where all of Obama’s campaign finances come from. In a report in The Wall Street Journal (October 6, 2008) regarding a suit filed by the Republican National Committee, the Obama campaign admits to stepping up its controls to limit foreign money and is checking passports of donors at overseas fundraisers. Excuse me. Overseas fundraisers? For a president of the US?
Me? I’d like to know just who is supporting this guy, and what the payback is going to cost America. And if you think that’s not important, I got a bridge to nowhere to sell you.
So, three facts pointing to three important holes in the policies and ethics of a man who wants to lead this country during a crucial point in its history. Allow me to simplfy:
1. What is Barack Hussein Obama trying to accomplish with a tax plan that redistributes wealth to “all” the people whether they work for it or not. And why does he think $200,000 makes someone “wealthy?” I guess if the only “real” job you’ve had is political it’s a lot of money, but in the real world? And, by the way, let’s not forget who creates all the good jobs … all those terrible rich folk.
2. Why would anyone vote for a man with a demonstrated inability to discern the true character of those with whom he surrounds himself? Got any FBI Most Wanted folks in your phone book? Obama has plenty in his.
3. Who the hell is paying for this minimally-credentialed nobody that allows him a war chest that has to have exceeded $500,000,000 if using only the numbers of his staunch allies’ — the subjectively disassociated-from-reality Main Stream Media — headlines? Remember: two years ago you would have said when you heard his name, “Wasn’t he the public information guy for Saddam?”
Maybe you might want the answers before you consider voting for him, huh? No fire where the smoke is, right?
