This is only of interest to Long Islanders, but it also marks the passing of a one-of-a-kind type of businessman and journalist.
"David J. Willmott Sr., a publisher who made some politicians genuflect and some readers cringe during the heyday of his Suffolk Life Newspapers, died on Sunday, August 9, at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. He was 71 years old and a resident of Southampton and Palm City, Florida." (Full obit HERE.)
I, like many area journalists at some point in their careers, did some work for Suffolk Life, so I can personally attest to the fact that this one a one-of-a-kind operation, and Willmott was the driving force behind it.
My condolences to his family.
