NICE FIND FOR ALL YOU WAR FOLKS OUT THERE

There have been a lot of songs introduced by good ol' Hollywood about the Viet Nam war (or the Third Southeast Asian War Games, take your pick).

One of my (many) favorites is the Scottish song that accompanies the final battle which occurred at Battle of the Ia Drang, immortalized and Hollywood-ized (quite well, I think), in the movie We Were Soldiers Once and Young. (Read the book for Chris' sakes ... here's the Wikipedia summary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Ia_Drang) ... For those of you who don't know, that's the last time Giap tried to set-piece a battle with American soldiers. But I digress ...

Anyway ...

I was listening to it (I have it on iTunes needless to say) on YouTube (here's the final battle scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPr9g3EVz-o) and I came across it with the Scottish with English translation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB2Ad04mukI

Excellent (though the pics accompanying it are WWII ...the song has a WWI feel about it ...anyone know which was it was written for?)

Enjoy (such as it is).

04 Jan 14: Thanks to Bruce W: It's a WW I song.
