I’m not a big fan of House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, her policies or her party, but her stand on that mutt from Venezuela speaks volumes of why this country works, and most of the others are cesspools of dictatorships, fiefdoms, religious oligarchies and military rule.
Speaking about the Venezuelan who is driving his middle class business owners out of his country at — what should be apparent to anyone — a ruinous rate, she noted, “Hugo Chavez fancies himself a modern day Simon Bolivar but all he is an everyday thug … [he] abused the privilege that he had, speaking at the United Nations … [and] demeaned himself and he demeaned Venezuela.”
As one comedian said (and I don’t agree with the sentiment, but it does pretty much sum it up) “He [President Bush] may be an asshole, but he’s our asshole.”
Let’s see how long Chavez lasts once the campesinos get hungry.
