Actually, it's October 16, but it happened in 1891.
Just when you think you knew your American History — or needed the perfect name for a bar — something new pops up. I seem to recall something about Valparaiso and war, and I guess this is it.

"A brawl between American Sailors and Chilean nationals outside the True Blue Saloon in Valparaiso, Chile, resulted in two American Sailors killed, 17 wounded (five seriously) and many arrested. The incident sparked a diplomatic crisis that lasted for months, occasionally threatening war between the two countries, until a settlement was reached."
