WHALE OF A TALE

There's a whale, of indeterminant species, swimming in the waters between Staten Island and Brooklyn. Anyone get a pic, send it to me.

UPDATE 2018-09 Apr: "The Coast Guard suspended its safety zone around the humpback whale in Ambrose Channel south of the Verrazano Bridge at 4:30 p.m. today.

The last known sighting of the whale was at 2:24 p.m. at the number five and six buoys in Ambrose Channel by a boat crew from Coast Guard Station New York and representatives from the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation.

“The Coast Guard continued to monitor the situation throughout the day and partnered with various agencies to protect the animal,” said Lt. Caren Damon, Coast Guard Sector New York’s command duty officer. “The New York City Police Department and Department of Conservation along with our assets maintained a vigilant watch to ensure commercial and recreational vessel traffic kept a safe distance.”"
